Question 1-  How was the Bhakti movement spread across the country?

Answer 1- The Bhakti movement was multi-dimensional and nationwide. It had an impact on every section of the society, hence it is also called social reform movement. For example, Sant Kabir criticized the hypocrisy prevalent in both Hindu and Muslim religions. Similarly, the sage tradition of the medieval Indian Sufi movement  also basically represented ancient Indian spiritual traditions.

Question 2- How does the lives of Kabir and Guru Ravidas give the message of importance of work?

Answer 2- Kabir and Ravidas, despite preaching simple devotion, did not give up their business and  gave the message of the importance of labor. Kabir ji weaved cloth throughout his life and Ravidas did his ancestral work throughout his life.

Question 3- Did the Saints open the path of liberation for all sections of society?

Answer 3- Saints had opened the path of liberation for all sections of society by opposing the caste system. He believed that people from all sections of society could attain God by devotion to God. God is present for everyone, only those who worship Him with true devotion will attain Him. Caste is not created by God.

Question 4- What was the main difference between Saguna and Nirguna Sant tradition?

Answer 4-

Sagun: The saints of Saguna Bhakti stream considered God to be corporeal and believed in idol worship.  Example- Meera Bai.

Nirgun:  The saints of the Nirguna Bhakti stream considered God to be formless. Example- Sant Kabir.

Question 5:  What were the main teachings of the saints of the Bhakti movement?

Answer 5-  The main teachings of the saints of the Bhakti movement were as follows:

I)                         Bhakti – It was a simple and easy way to attain salvation. There were two mainly forms of Bhakti Saguna and Nirguna bhakti.

II)                      Omnipresent God – Omnipresent God. The God of the devout saints was all-pervasive and omnipotent. He resided in every particle of creation.

III)                    Devotion to God- The devout saints emphasized on devotion to the Lord. He believed that God is pleased by doing devotion to God with a true heart.

IV)                   Importance of Guru- All devout saints have emphasized the importance of Guru to attain liberation. In devotion, the place of Guru is the highest and sacred. It is the Guru who shows the disciple the right path to liberation.

V)                     Opposition to discrimination- The saints of the Bhakti movement strongly criticized the evils spread in the society. All the saints opposed the caste system.

VI)                   Opposition to hypocrisy- Many saints of the Bhakti period opposed idol worship. Among them were Sant Kabir, Namdev and Guru Nanak Dev. They considered idol worship to be ostentatious. Apart from this, he also opposed tantra mantras, sorcery, fasting and sacrifice.

VII)                Simple Life - The saints emphasized only on devotion to God with a true heart and on leading a simple life. emphasized. Guru Nanak Dev was opposed to renunciation of the world.

VIII)              Importance of labor- Sant Kabir and Ravidas ji did not leave their business even while preaching simple devotion. And gave the message of the importance of labor in life.

IX)                   Equality- The saints emphasized on equality. The saint was a supporter of Hindu-Muslim unity, as well as he also emphasized on social equality.

X)                      Local Language - All the saints of the Bhakti movement propagated their ideas in the language of the common people. He firmly believed that devotion to God could not be done in any particular language. For that, there should be true faith and feeling in the mind.

Question 6- What was the impact of Bhakti movement on Indian society?

Answer 6- The Bhakti movement had a multi-dimensional and nationwide impact on Indian society.  It had an impact on every section of the society. That is why it is also called social reform movement. Following are the main effects of Bhakti movement:

I)                         Attack on evils- In the Bhakti movement, attacking religious evils gave a new direction to religion. Done. This movement promoted social harmony by making the path of liberation through devotion available to all social classes.

II)                      New direction to religion- In the Bhakti movement, religion was given a new direction by reconnecting it with spirituality. The saints criticized religious hypocrisy and re-conveyed the form of religion. The saints emphasized on living a simple life.

III)                    Opening the path of liberation for all- The saints opposed the caste system. He believed that people from all sections of society could attain God.
